"Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Matthew 5:14-16

Our world is full of darkness. Everywhere you look you can see that Peter wasn't lying when he said that Satan is roaming the earth seeking whom he may devour. Our world is slowly being devoured by darkness. Satan is starting to fulfill his mission that Jesus warns us about in John 10:10 where He warns us that Satan has come to “Kill, Steal, and Destroy.”

Where are all the Christians at? What have we been doing? Personally, I think we have a very soft generation of people who claim to love Jesus but show no evidence of Jesus changing their lives. I think we live in a generation who sees a Saturday night at the bar more important than a Sunday morning in a church pew. I promise it is impossible to shine a light for Christ while getting plastered drunk with your buddies. As I near five years in the ministry I have been able to see what I believe is the problem with Christians these days. Just my opinion here, but I think Christians are doing everything they can to justify why they fall into a sin, rather than confessing, repenting, and turning away from that sin. Sin is impossible to justify, that is the whole reason Jesus was sent to the cross! It had to be forgiven. Yet we will make every excuse we can so that we can continue to indulge in it without feeling bad about it.

Simply put we are coming up short on a call that Jesus has for us. To be the light. To let people see Jesus by the way that we live our lives. It is impossible to contribute to a winning team if you never make your way off the sidelines. Unfortunately, that is exactly what we have. We have a few people doing the work while there is a whole team that could be contributing, sitting on the sidelines, content with where they are at. The Christian life is meant to be uncomfortable, over the past seven years I cannot remember one time where I was totally content with my walk with Christ. There is always something for me to improve on. The one thing I have learned to do, is to allow Jesus to live through me, and put Jonathan on the back burner. The only way that people can see the Light of the Gospel in our lives is if we allow Jesus to live through us.

We have to make a difference. We are called to make a difference. We have the light that this dark world needs, it’s time we start to shine it. Don’t hide something God has given you to shine so brightly. “I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ” -Romans 1:16. Shine your light and don't be ashamed of the Gospel that saved your soul.

Think about a lighthouse. They are used to guide ships at sea where they are supposed to go by helping them to avoid dangerous areas. As Christians don't serve in the same way? We are to guide people closer to Jesus, not farther away from Him by thee way we live our lives. We should all strive to be like the lighthouse by guiding people home while they are lost in the darkness.
