Jonah 2:7
“As my life was fading away, I remembered Yahweh. My prayer came to You, to Your holy temple.”
In my opinion this is one of the most beautiful verses
in the whole Bible. I get chill bumps every time I read it. I had the opportunity recently to write a Bible study for IMPACT camp, which is a church camp based out of Tennessee. The camp director assigned me Jonah chapter 2 to study, and then to write the Bible study for the Tuesday session of the camp. This verse is the main focal point of the whole passage.
As Jonah has been swallowed up in the belly of a fish it seems like he has lost all hope. He was destined to die. He had been disobedient to God and fled from the call God had put on his life. His life was fading away. Jonah then remembers God and he begins to pray for God to deliver him from the belly of the great fish. God delivers Jonah from the belly of the fish in verse 10 of Jonah chapter 2. Jonah’s prayer showed his faithfulness to God, God spares Jonah and gives him another chance to go to Nineveh and share the Gospel with that evil city.
Maybe you're like Jonah today. Do you feel like you've faded away from God? God has a call for each of us in our time here on earth, Jonah’s call was to go to Nineveh and he disobeyed. Have you been disobedient to the call God has put on your life? Seek Him. This is exactly what Jonah did and it lead to his deliverance from possibly the greatest trial of his life.
You may feel absolutely hopeless about your life or a situation in your life, but I promise you that God is waiting for you to run to Him with His arms open wide. God desires a closer walk with us, but are we desiring a closer walk with Him. Jonah had lost all hope, yet through faith in God he was delivered from his hopelessness and set his sights on being a devoted servant to God who delivered him.
So to the one who is struggling or feels like you are fading away, press into God and stop running from Him. He can and He will deliver you from this trial in your life. Give your struggle to Him and as your life seems to be fading away just remember that God hears our prayers and He is THE Great Deliverer and He will deliver you if you trust Him!
